Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Revolution about?

The Revolution is a social movement centered on empowering youth and children to stand up, speak up, and fight back for the futures they deserve.

Why do we need a revolution?

Because our opponents have left us no other options. We can’t go through Congress as long as Republicans control the Senate and block any efforts to address our concerns. We can’t go through the courts because it will take years to reach the Supreme Court, which we already know is corrupted by two stolen seats. And we can’t go through the justice system as long as Attorney General William Barr continues to act as Donald Trump’s personal attorney.

We are clearly descending quickly into the same kind of fascist tyranny that the framers of Constitution tried to protect us from.

It’s up to us to stop it, because clearly we cannot depend on our government to save us.

What makes this different from other political activist groups?

We are not a political activist group; we are a social movement.

We are a social movement centered on children and youth, where most groups are centered on adults.

We are using non-violent resistance tactics that no other groups in the U.S. have tried yet. Tactics that have already worked in other countries to bring down authoritarian regimes far worse than ours.

What makes you think you can succeed where everyone else has failed?

Because this time we have YOU. :)

Why center on children and youth?

Children in America now are like hostages on a runaway train headed for a cliff with a madman for a conductor. Because they are too young to vote or participate meaningfully in adult activist groups, they rightly feel powerless to prevent the nightmarish hell of a future adults have created for them. This is fundamentally wrong and unacceptable.

A key strategy to any successful social movement is drawing the Line of Division to maximize the number of people on our side and minimize the number of people on the other side. With children on our side, who in their right mind is going to want to be on the opposing side?

Children/youth at rallies, marches, protests always make the best photo ops in mainstream media and social media.

Social media is one of the most powerful weapons we have to reframe narratives and influence elections. And social media? It’s what kids do.

We want our movement to be “cool.” Who knows what’s cool better than kids and young adults? Not to mention they are highly sought after by Wall Street corporations as future consumers.

Children/youth have the power to guilt trip adults into taking actions they otherwise wouldn’t. The youth of America have the right and power to ask why the adults in their lives have failed in their most fundamental duty: protecting them from harm.

If this is centered on children and youth, does that mean they will be running the whole thing?

Centering on children and youth means that as much as possible, we will empower them with the tools they need to stand up, speak up, and fight back for the futures they deserve. That will look different in different parts of the country, depending on how many youth or young adults want to get involved at an organizing level. Some groups may need a lot of adult guidance, others may want or need zero.

The job of adults in this movement is to provide whatever guidance and support are needed to enable children and youth to stand up for themselves.

The youth-led movements we’ve already seen around gun safety and climate change are good models for us to emulate.

Why should I support?

Because we still believe that no one is too small to make a difference in the world. And because we still believe that in spite of all we hear and all we see around us, we can still change the world.

But we can’t keep doing the same things we’ve been doing and expect to get different results.
